Monitoring Modbus - Mode Spy

I am working in the project to expand and improve the capacity of SCADA. Actuality there are 8 Modbus network (8 master and 24 slaves). I need a tool (Control Active X,Object,Class o Device) for "MONITORING" the 8 Modbus network. I need incoroporate this object to Lookout (National Instruments) tool. Or OPC Server for this. I need Spy Mode - Silently monitor the Modbus traffic from master to slaves or from slaves to the master.

Juda,

Thank you for using the discussion forums here at ni.com. Lookout does have the ability to generate a diagnostic file for each of the com ports on your PC. From your initial posting, I am not very clear on the setup of your system. Are you using ethernet or serial to communicate? Do you have 8 master modbus PLCs or 8 modbus objects in Lookout? If you can answer these questions, then it might be easier to find a solution to your problem.

I am working in the project to expand and improve the capacity of SCADA.
In our company, it has installed 8 Modbus networks, masters are PLC GE Fanuc and Slave (Energy Meter, Regulators PID,Temperature Meter, etc). What I need is to work in a already existing system. That is the difficulty. My PC Lookout NI, no can be MASTER, the poll conflict with the master existing.
No is only monitoring.
I need work with a Device Modbus; and make trends,
triggers, animation, alarms, export to Excel, etc with this variables (Coils, registers).inclusively to have an accountant of errors of LRC or CRC.
Sumary :I need all funcinality of object "Modbus Master" but in "Mode Spy or Silently".
The connection mode is Serial, 19200.
Depending on this functionality we hoped to do
this new SCADA using NI Lookout

Hi Juda,

If Lookout cannot be the Master in the network, then you can use it as a Slave by using the ModbusSlave object. So, for "monitoring" the traffic between the Master and the Slave devices, you could add Lookout as an additional slave and have it read from the Master.

You'll need one ModbusSlave per Master. And you can have one ModbusSlave per COM port on your PC. So, you may need additional ports.

Theoretically, this seems possible.. but you will want to test this before committing to this idea.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Khalid
