NIHypertrend Traces

Why do NIHypertrend traces drag across the screen? I have had this problem on different processes, on different computers, and on different versions of Lookout. When left untouched, a horizontal "phantom" trace will form at the last value of a trended trace. When you left click on the hypertrend, the "phantom" traces disappear leaving the normal traces. This is really hard to explain obviously but I know I am not the only person who has experienced this. Feel free to explain it better if you can.

In the future I will attempt to capture screenshots.

I understand what you mean by "phantom trace". I believe you are not the only person who has experienced this.
But it's hard the explain why. How often do you see it? Do you have find a way to reproduce it? If you could provide a screenshot, it's helpful.

The problem also exists in Labview 8.2. There the "phantom lines" appear constantly, no matter what. It makes a total mess of the graph.

I think the issue is already longer known, the phantom lines are listed as a know issue in Labview DSC 8.2.1.  Apparently the bug was migrated all the why of Lookout to DSC.

See link:

There it says: The NI HyperTrend ActiveX control might plot horizontal lines for unchanging item values. Scroll or zoom the NI HyperTrend display to remove the horizontal lines.

I think the offered solution of : "Scroll or zoom the NI HyperTrend display to remove the horizontal lines." does not really make sense. I think no one will ask a customer to constantly click in the graph, but if he does not then he will be constantly looking to horizontal lines.

In my opinion the hypertrend ActiveX Object is in theory a nice tool but in my case a totally unusable tool because the graphs always look like a big mess.

Do you know if a bugfix in the work?

Thanks naarbarry. You described the problem perfectly. I also agree that "Scroll or zoom the NI HyperTrend display to remove the horizontal lines" is not an acceptable solution. There needs to be a fix for this other than asking the end users to keep clicking on the trend to clean it up.

I have given up the hope for a fix. I know the problem from at least LV 7 times and did post it then here. But this bug does not seem to be a priority.

That is strange, though. Because in LV 8 NI changed the standard trace mode to YXStep (which is better than an linear interpolation for data logged to a database) and here the problem appears. If you switch to line style "solid", the problem goes away...

I think the HDV is a great tool that makes life much easier (just imagine programming such a tool yourself) but it needs much more attention by NI...

I am having the same problems (Horizontal Lines) in the MAX and also in Hypertrend Traces.
My version is 8.21 + DSC.
Changing trace mode to "solid" also helps.

After opening an Service Request on this error NI said that they can´t reconstruct this problem,
I searched and found this thread. Now I am also waiting for help......

Add another one to the list.  I am also experiencing the same problem, when I call a sub VI that has a NI Hypertrend on it all the traces have these phantom line.  The only temporary fix that I found was to use a property node to refresh the Graph as soon as the VI is opened, this cleans it up till next time.  Also I found that if you view the data in MAX on a graph, this same phenomenon happens.

I'm getting the same problem in MAX. Streaky lines all over the show! Any suggestions on how to sort this would be appreciated.
