Novell Netware

Hi
Does anyone have experience of running Lookout 5.1 on a system with
WIndows XP Pro and Novell Netware. We have a number of systems, but only
one on a netware network. The system on the Novell network seems to save
it's state file only at very erratic intervals (its set to save every
minute but at one stage did not save for two weeks, then just seemed to
start saving again of its own accord)
Any comments would be welcomed

Hello Fred,

Logos 4.x is not supported on Novell Networks, so networking within Lookout will very likely not work. By default, Lookout will try to establish some networking, which may be causing the other problems you are seeing. Let's try disabling networking to see if that alleviates the problem.

Create a file called logos.ini in your c:\windows or c:\winnt directory. You can create this file with a text editor like Notepad (the file must be called logos.ini, make sure that it doesn't have a .txt on the end). You will need to put the following two lines in the file:

[LogosSockets]
NoNetwork = 1

Restart your computer and Lookout and then you should be able to run Lookout properly, stand-alone on your machine.

If you have any other questions, please
post a reply.

Hi
Thanks, however this raises some other questions:
How do I determine what version of Logos I am running? ( I've looked at
file versions in ...\Shared\Logos and they are 4.5.x.x)
If I disable networking as suggested will my client still work?

Thanks
Fred.

Hi Fred,

You can determine which version of Logos you are running by right-clicking on the lkcitdl.exe in the system32 directory and checking the version in the properties. If your client is on a different computer, you will not be able to communicate with it once networking has been disabled. We can only support Lookout running as stand-alone systems on Novell Networks; not as networked systems.
