Red x and comm fail for a short while after flipping switch

I just developed a Lookout process that monitors 6 inputs from each of 10 rtu's. That works fine. Then I added a switch to send an output to one of the rtu's. I get red x's and a comm fail on that rtu for a short while after flipping the switch. That all clears up and the output completes as expected. Why do I get the comm fail and red x's? Thanks.

I think I solved my own problem. When I increased the recieve timeout of both the rtu and controller from 500 msec to 8000 msec the noted problem goes away. Thanks.
