Using Numeric Alias Alarm Conditions

I understand how to assign an alias to a numeric input and I can see that there are limits that I can set to trigger an alarm conditon to record in citadel.   Can I detect when an alias goes out of range for use elsewhere in my process?  If not, then perhaps I would be better off not using the alias alarm conditons and adding an alarm object.  Is that right?

Thanks

Hi Joe: Could you give me some more details about your process and where you would want to see these alarms? The alarm that you have set is explicity used to log alarms to the database and nothing more. However, if you want something to trigger when a numeric value exceeds a certain limit, you would be better off using an alarm object. Using aliases however, should not matter whatsoever. An alias simply allows user to use more meaningful terms to refer to a particular data member and do not affect functionality. In short, you might want to use an alarm object. However, if you could give me more specifics on your application, that would be helpful. Thanks, Jaideep J. Applications Engineer
