edit using remote desktop

I am using a server class machine to serve lookout across my network. I would like to be able to edit the server app by using remote desktop from another PC. I have not been successful, unless I shutdown Lookout and reopen it on the remote desktop. Is it possible to do this in another manner so that I do not have to shut down the server app?

Hi Carl,

I am guessing that you mean that you can't switch to edit mode from the remote computer using Remote Desktop. This is most likely because you are using Ctrl-space to switch and you have not enabled Windows key combinations before connecting.

You can enable these from the Remote Desktop Connection window by selecting Options, then clicking on the Local Resource tab and selecting "On the remote computer" or "in full screen mode only" from the pull down menu in the Keyboard box.

If you don't want to enable the key combinations, you can also switch to edit mode by selecting Edit>>Edit Mode from the pull-down menus inside Lookout.

Well Chad, that may have been my next forthcoming question, so I will definately keep that in mind. But first, when I bring up remote desktop, I actually see the desktop and not the Lookout app that is running. I cannot see it on the task bar either.

Lookout is running on my server machine, but from the remote access machine I cannot see it at all. If I try to open Lookout, it will not open my application (because it is already running). I just can't see it. Any ideas?

Carl,

I am using the Remote Desktop Connection and Window XP on both computers and I am not seeing the problems that you are seeing.

If you are also using the native Remote Desktop Connection on XP, then you can try going to www.windowsupdate.com and update Windows. I have all of the updates. I don't know any other reason why it wouldn't work.

Hi,

Any chance that you are logging in as a different user when you do remote desktop? What I mean is, did you log into the primary system under a certain account like Administrator, start the Lookout Process, and then attempt to log in remotely using a different account? If so, maybe Windows is using the Fast User Switching that Lookout does not support..... Just a thought

Thanks for the help guys, I did fail to mention that my server is running Windows 2000 Server. I thought Remote desktop and terminal serveces were supposed to be the same, but I found out that the reason remote desktop works is due to a sub-applet XP uses, and Lookout does not support Terminal Services. Anyway, I got my desired result by using PC Anywhere.

It happens only if you specifies Lookout to run as a NT service
(lkserv.exe). That's why Chad couldn't reproduce this.
