As I understand your question, you are attempting to open an OPC Project to find a specific *.sep file when the computer freezes. It is a good idea to get the latest service pack for Windows 2000 (SP4), but there is likely another problem. Another good measure would be uninstalling and reinstalling Server Explorer, which it sounds like you've tried. It's possible there could be registry setting that is not getting changed for you during the reinstallation, so really solving this problem on this computer could be a lot of work.
Instead of opening an existing project, can you try to simply connect to one of the OPC servers you are using? Simply right-click on the OPC Server in the list and select Wizard. Step through the wizard choosing most of the defaults, but on
ly choose to view a few of the items at first. Does this work?
Opening a project file in Server Explorer is not usually required for application development. Server Explorer is only used to verify OPC Server connections; it's simply an OPC client. If you can verify that the connections you need look good, you could probably not worry about the fact that you cannot open a project file.
If you are unable to connect to your servers or if you really do need to load this project file, please post a reply.
