server opc client

Dear Sir or Madam,

I would like access from any Computer at the server database with the

software lookout. (Over opc ethernet like, http://www.ni.com/pdf/products/us/4msw131-132.pdf)

I have downloaded the software under the Interadress

http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/1141/lang/en but firstly it is to big (I need only a programm that connect the PC’s over OPC. Has National instruments a cheaper or even a free programm?  That I can use? And a manual that shows how can I install the progarmm and it connect with the server database) and  secondly there was an error two (lines below) when I installed the lookout6.2.

(I have no serial code code this  product)

WARNING:  Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Later Detected

On Windows XP Service Pack 2 or greater, many features of Lookout will

not work with the Internet Connection Firewall enabled. National Instruments

recommends you disable the Internet Connection Firewall through the Control Panel

>>Windows Firewall.  For more information, got to ni.com/info and enter

 winxpsp2.

How it is possible to avoid such errors. ?

It is with your school license(serial number) possible to run the programm?

Finaly I found a programm ni Licensemanager and I want to activate it (it is possible with it).

It is necessary to declare the new programm in the exceptions of windows firewall, like this http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/0D7B86F4B4D19A5E86256F9A006EECB1?OpenDocument

I have installed before the old verion of Lookout 6.1 and 6.2, how get I this

 software

down from the Computer. I haven't found at the folder the uninstall file.

Can you tell me what I have to do, when I want to remove from the hard disk.

Can you tell me, how I can you ask any question, I tried it but with no success.

Under the mail Adress: lookout.support@ni.com although I have got a request number.

 best regards

Citadel database and Logos may have problem with firewall enabled, but it is not neccessary to disabled firewall. The KB you mentioned is about how to configure the firewall to let the Citadel communication pass when you read Citadel data from client computer. I guess it is just a warning and your install process will be fine.

I don't quite understand your requirements. What is the "server database" you said? Is it the Citadel database used by Lookout, or another kind of database or application? Does the "server database" have the OPC feature?

The typical Lookout application is that a Lookout server process running on server computer, doing data aquisition, logging and alarming, some client processes accessing the server process for data from the client computers. The communicating between the Lookout server and client process doesn't use the OPC.

If you want to use Lookout as OPC client to connect some kind of application(OPC Server) and get data, lookout is able to do it.

What is the "school license" you got? Is it for LabVIEW or Lookout? You'd better contact our customer service for the activation.

Without activation, Lookout has limited IO count, but has all the functionalities.

To uninstall Lookout, go to Control Panel->Add or Remove Programs, select National Instrument software, change/remove.

Try to submit email request from www.ni.com/ask.
