After a system crash MAX hangs whenever the "devices" part of the tree is expanded.

The system consists of windows 2000 running on a DELL pentium-II with 320 MB RAM.

The IMAQ hardware is a PCI-1411 connected to a standard CCIR CCD. Everything was working OK until this morning when an "unhandled exception" occured, I suspect due to my forgetting to stop one acquisition before beginning a second one (MAX was running with "Grab" turned on and I ran an application which also acquires images).

Now, whenever MAX is asked to refresh with F5, or the devices tab is selected the program hangs completely (I've tried leaving it for 10 minutes). The settings for the camera (which still works fine with acquisition programs, other than having been reset to the wrong
camera type / capture area / image settings) have been somewhat scrambled and I'm now unable to correct them.

Renaming the config.mxs file in the MAX directory solves the immediate problem, but it seems to be unable to reconstruct its database so that doesn't help.

So, what do I do now?

OK, I can now answer my own question.

The problem appears to have been that the CCIR.icd file had become corrupt, presumably as a result of the crash. Renaming it and then reconfiguring the camera appears to have solved the problem.

It's slightly concerning that a single data file becoming obviously corrupt (its contents were replaced with a series of null characters of similar length) doesn't cause any sort of error message from MAX, but does cause it to hang completely, but that does appear to have been the cause of the problem.
