Thanks for your post. The circuitry on the CVS is no different than that of a traditional PC motherboard. It has an on-board crystal oscillator clock that is used to keep system time and is used as a reference for timed loops (the clock can be divided down for different control loop rates) . The real time clock (RTC) uses a small watch battery for power. It is the same type of battery you would find on a motherboard to power the BIOS circuitry and keep system time when the PC is off. The expected life of this battery is spec'd at 5 years.
