Bayer Color Decoding

Hi,
it seems there's no NI image acquisition device capable of "onboard" Color Decoding.
So how much CPU performance does color decoding take using IMAQ "Bayer Color Decode.vi"? We want to use a camera link camera with 1600x1200 (at least) @30fps. As our application has to run in real-time and do some color/pattern matching I'm concerning the CPU usage.

Cheers,
Bernd

I'm using SONY XCD-710CR (Bayer Color Camera). I'm able to run inspection using VBAI2.5 (color checking capabilities) with CVS1454. All you need is NI-IMAQ IEEE1394 2.0.0 release version or beta version bayer decoding.

I've tested and even the Beta version works fine. All you need to update your CVS/CPU with NI-IMAQ IEEE1394 2.0.0.
It's as simple as update the software and if your CPU is a remote target update it too.

I hope my suggestion should be able to solve your problem unless I'm misunderstood your problem.
(Note: this apply only if you use Color Raw or Bayer type color camera, not YUV types)

Hi Thayalan
thanks for your reply. But unfortunately there are no firewire cameras around that match our needs, and besides the ieee1394 itself wouldn't be fast enough. We need high resolution at 30 frames per second, so the best choice for us is "Camera Link". I'm just asking myself how complicated it is to decode the colors. My guess is that a up-to-date PC is capable but as I'm new to all that vision stuff I'm not sure.
Can anyone tell me that I don't have to worry about that color decoding thing (also called "Bayer Demultiplexing)? Some manufactures say that you should use a frame grabber that has onboard color decoding, i.e. the Matrox Helios XCL.

Cheers,
Bernd

Hi Bernd,

if you already have purchased Imaq Vision, you can do a benchmark on your computer to evaluate the performance. You don't need to start from scratch, just refer to the example Ring with Bayer Decoding vi, that ships with Imaq Vision.
