Camera has been removed error message

Running a very simple vision test app. After running for a short period of time, 1 - 2 minutes, I get the BFF6900C error message, Camera has been removed. Just downloaded VAS851 so I think I'm running the latest NI-IMAQdx driver. Using the Intel Pro/1000 network card, Windows XP Professional. Basler scA1390-17gc camera. Only way to get the camera back is to reboot. Same problem when running Measurement & Automation Explorer, the NI-IMAQdx entry just disappears about 30 seconds after doing a Snap.

Thanks,

Hi Bob,

Firstly, I'd suggest upgrading to Vision Acquisition 8.6. At some point there were improvements made that would increase the time of not seeing the camera before it would be removed (though this might already be changed in 8.5.1).

However, the underlying problem is probably that you are somehow losing the discovery packets on the wire and so the camera is getting removed. One way this can often happen is if you are using a PCI network card and the PCI bus is unable to keep up with the rapid packets from the camera. Ideally you should use a PCI-express card to eliminate this bandwidth issue. However, one other option you can try is to try reducing the "Desired Peak Bandwidth" attribute in IMAQdx to say 700Mbit/sec. Of course how low you can reduce it will depend on your required frame rate and pixel format.

You should doublecheck also in MAX is the lost packet and resent packet indicators are going up while you are acquiring. This would be indicative of the above problem.

Hope this helps,

Eric

Eric,

I am using a PCI-Express interface. Bringing up MAX, the camera and NI-IMAQdx entry both disappear about 30 seconds after clicking on the camera even without doing a Snap or Grab. Running NI-IMAQdx 3.1.2. Actually I'm having the same problem using the Pylon Viewer that comes with the Basler camera. Have contacted Basler but have not had a response yet.

Thanks,

Bob

Bob,

Is it possible you have some sort of software firewall installed?

Eric,

I normally develop software on my laptop, but in this case, since I need the GigE NIC card, I'm using the client's desktop machine. So the firewall is a definire possibility. I'll check it out.

Thanks,

Bob
