Camera timout when packet size gratr than 4500

Hello, everybody

I have problem with MAX , when I setup the Packet size in MAX to 9K ,
after 50sec approximately an error occurred (Error 0xBFF6901B, Time out ) and no image appeared ,
the default sitting of timeout is 5000msec.
I tried many times with different numbers (1500,2000,3000,3300,4500) and it was O.K ,
but when I connect third camera to the switch I have problem with 4500 (actually it was running but when I switches between cameras there is error occur),
then I set it to 3300 (its fine)
My question here, When I connect 3 cameras (50fps,16pit/pixel,640*480 resolution) to switch ,then to PPC controller and one slave PPC , did I set Packet size to the right value or I should set it to 9K with other setting ?.

Hi Alzhrani,

Based on your timeout error, I am assuming you have GigE cameras. I am also assuming that you are using our NI-IMAQdx driver. In MAX, can you see all of your cameras and are they all configured to have the same packet size? Also, could you be a little more specific about how the cameras are connected to your computer. If you need to acquire at 50 fps, try running a LabVIEW IMAQdx grab example and modify it to acquire from all three cameras. Then, you can adjust the packet size until framerates are met. Also, if the cameras do not work above a certain packet size, you probably do not have enough bandwidth for them all at that size. Finally, based on your timeout error, take a look at this link, which discusses some other possible causes. Please clarify these few things.

Hello, Matt-J

in the begining thank you for your replay

I have Basler  scA640-70gm 5-port GigaE switch (IGS-501 from PLANET) which support Jumbo Frame Packet

IP=192.168.0.1 with subnet mask = 255.255.255.0

I have NI-IMAQdx driver version 3.5.0 , I see all cameras in MAX I configure any attribute of camera , I set the frame rate to 50fps and i go down to 30fps

When I use the pylon viewer from Basler all three cameras what i have i can see the images in same time (3 cameras 50fps mono16) with 9k packet size

but when i use MAX or Labview i have timeout errore

please could any one tell us why NI-IMAQdx can not run with me when I set packet size more than 4800

from 1500 to 4800 it worked with me perfectly

Thank you

Hi Alzhrani,

Is the exact number 4800 where you get the timeout? (the title of your post says 4500) So, if you set the packet size to anything under 4800 it works, but 4800+ it does not? And, is performance not acceptable with a packet size under 4800?

Also, is triggering enabled for any of your cameras in MAX? This property would be listed under "Camera Attributes." If so, do your cameras work with it disabled? And, what are the timeouts for each camera? Are they the same?

Please let me know these things and I will look into your issue further.

Hello, Matt-J

in the begining , I would thank you for reply

yes the cameras worked with 4500 Packet size and below that, (Timout is 5000ms)

Triggering was disabled .....

Now I get the solution of that , I disabled the Test Packet
and i tested that with three cameras in parallel , with 9000 packet size

I Got that solution from your reply by disabling the Test Packet

My Question now is the test packet is important  for me..??????

the camera is worked perfectly with 9000 packet size but disabled test packet

Hi Alzhrani,

I am glad to hear that you got it working! If your cameras are working perfectly without test packets enabled, then you should not need them. In fact, I have come across a few instances (like this one) where the "enable test packets" option had to be unchecked for Basler cameras to work. So, since things are working, I think you should not run into any more problems. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help with.
