Codec recommendations?

I have two different video streams coming into LabVIEW from a couple lab cameras and out into uncompressed AVI files. The stats are like so:

Video source 1:
8-bit
grayscale
768x484
~10 frames/sec (the AVI is set to 30fps but I only end up with 9-11 frames per second of real time)

Video source 2:
12-bit converted to 8-bit
grayscale
1280x1024
8 frames/sec

These are uncompressed files, so they're much too big to do anything useful with. Can anyone recommend a codec for these streams?

There is a great example program that ships with the Vision 7 Development Module that tell you exactly how each codec on your computer saves your uncompressed AVI movie file. It tries each codec and returns the time it takes to compress and save the AVI, the quality of the compression, and the final file size.

The program can be found at C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 7.0\examples\Vision\2. Functions\AVI\AVI Compressor Comparison.llb

You need to have the Vision 7 Development Module to compress AVI files in LabVIEW.

Yeah, I wish I had Vision 7... but unfortunately I don't. Do you have any specific codec recommendations I could try?
