Hello,
We are developing a Machine Vision Application incorporating NI CVS-1454. I will appreciate if i could get some comments / recommendations for the following:
1- How good the Fire-i 601c / 501c Color Cameras from Unibrain (brochure attached) Integrate with CVS-1454? I see that these are IIDC DCAM compliant cameras but i have never used them with CVS series before.
2- Can we apply color tools using VBAI 3.0 on these? Again, we have never done color Inspections especially with these cameras before.
3- Is it true that these cameras do not allow Sutter Speed control from within the CVS? As It says "AUTO SHUTTER" in the specifications.
Any help / comments / suggestions shall be highly appreciated.

I haven't tested these cameras, so I can't speak about the image quality, but the brochure does say the shutter speed can be set from 1us to 65 sec, so it looks like there is a mode where you have a fixed shutter time (in addition to the auto mode).
There are several color processing tools available in VBAI, which include color pattern matching, color location, color operators (adding colors), color threshold, color measure, etc.
The color image comes to about 3.2MB, and I believe the CVS running VBAI has about 40MB available for inspections/image processing, so unless you are acquiring from this camera in multiple steps or using steps that make copies of the image, or planning on writing a large inspection, you should have enough memory on the CVS. Not sure about your processing speed needs. If the CVS isn't powerful enough, you can always upgrade to our EVS (has much more memory and processing power than the CVS). It's about $1,000 more, but you get a lot more for it too. If the CVS meets your needs, then spending less makes sense, just wanted to make you aware of this higher end option in case you might want to use this product for other demanding projects in the future.
Hope this helps,
Brad

Dear Faisal,
Although I have not purchased the Unibrain branded version of these cameras, I have worked with the IMI-Tech version of the cameras, see http://www.imi-tech.com/en/rhein.html. The cameras are of reasonable quality and priced competitively. The IMI-Tech version of the cameras allows for auto or manual shutter speed control, so the Unibrain camera most likely does as well.
