How do I use two identical webcams in one application? - IMAQ USB

Two webcams in one application, accessed one by one, should not be a problem…

Except when the two webcams has the same name as can be found in “IMAQ USB Enumerate Cameras.vi”

How do I control which webcam to initialize, when they are having the same name. In practice I always get the first webcam at index 0 in the “IMAQ USB Enumerate Cameras.vi”, even when selecting index 1. Index 0 and 1 has the same string content, while the two webcams are identical.

I really need some help on this one

Hi AGK,

The short answer is that you can't, at least with that driver. IMAQ USB was never distributed as a supported product and had several known limitations. The IMAQdx driver has fully replaced all functionality the IMAQ USB driver had and is fully supported by NI. It also properly supports any number of simultaneous unique or identical cameras.

IMAQdx is distributed as part of Vision Acquisition (https://www.ni.com/en-us/shop/product/vision-acquisition-software.html), of which you can download the 2009 version here:

https://www.ni.com/en/support/downloads/drivers/download.vision-acquisition-software.html

Depending on what products you already have, you may already have a license for it. However, you can certainly try it without activation to verify it suits your needs first.
