MAX doesn't report Firewire 800 speed for AVT Pike F210B

Hi all,

I get my AVT Pike F210B camera working perfectly under AVT Smartview 1.7 but  I am having troubles with the Measurement & Automation Explorer 4.3 not reporting me the 800 Mbps speed (IEEE 1394b).
MAX reports properly all the video modes of the camera but the drop list for the speed has no other choice than 100 Mbps and as soon as I try a 30 fps grab it pops an "Insufficient resoucres available for required video mode" error window.
Is this a driver problem (I have Vision Acquisition Software 8.5.1 installed)?

Thanx in advance for your help.

"Insufficient resoucres available for required video mode"

I think it is a bandwidth problem!

Since I cannot set the speed to something else than 100 Mbps I then get a bandwith problem when grabbing at 30 fps.
My problem is to understand why I cannot set the speed to more than 100 Mbps...

Thanx for you help.

Have you fixed the XP issue that limits you to 100 Mbps?  Something to do with the service pack that limits you to 100 Mbps.  Search for the fix on the internet.

I am using a Pike505b camera.  When I have it plugged in, I can go up to 400 Mbps, but not 800. Mbps

I have MAX 4.4.1 installed and am using the IMAQdx driver.  I am also using the Format 7 video modes and am acquiring 16 bit data.

I saw a similar error when I tried any of the non Format 7 modes.

Thank you all for your help.

Like Bruce mentioned it should be the XP / Firewire issue limiting the speed to 100 Mbps.

I digged a bit deeper on the forum and found out a thead with similar pbs:
http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=200&thread.id=16799

Go there to see a detailed description on how to solve the problem (an extra thx to doelab ).

The AVT support is also very responsive: they sent me a tool for which makes it easy to downgrade drivers under XP SP2 !

Hello Jean-Philippe,

I'm curious, were you able to achieve the 800Mb speed then?

Hi Patrick,

I was able to achieve that 800Mps speed after downgrading the Windows XP driver from SP2 to SP1.
Actually the support from AVT did send me a small tool for doing that thus sparing me the tedious task!
Great support from AVT !!! Thank you once again guys!!!

regards,

Jean-Philippe

Ah.  I read something about this actually when I purchased a new FireWire card for a project last year.  For me, I didn't require that kind of bandwidth.  So I didn't go to the trouble.

I wonder if XP SP3 has addressed this?  Or possibly Vista?
