Hi,
Looking to use Vision Assistant with a CCD camera but firstly I need to buy a PCI-e board.
The board must be x16, with a 1394a port and have an OHCI chipset.
Any help on this would be appreciated - I can find boards that are x1 but I'm seeing conflicting reports on whether x1 can be connected to a x16 etc.
Thanks
Tom

Tom,
A x1 PCIe device can be plugged into a x16 slot. This is referred to as "Up-plugging." The PCIe specification states that all devices and ports must be able to negotiate a x1 lane connection at a minimum so this will work.
A x16 PCIe Gen1 target device with a theoretical bandwidth limit of 4 GB/s is over-kill for a 1394 port so you will be hard pressed to find a 1394, x16 PCIe board because the cost would be too much. Three 1394B ports all running at 800 Mbit/s would not be able to saturate a x1 connection with 250 MB/s of theoretical bandwidth.
Best Regards,
Jeff
