Problems with GigE vision

Hi,I have an Imperx GigE camera (IPX-11M5-V) that I would like to take pictures with. I have installed the NIC and I'm using the NI GigE vision adapter driver toghether with IpEngine. (direct connection to the camera)The problem is that I don't seem to get any pictures from the camera. In MAX, I can view and change the attributes just fine, but the only pictures I can see are the testpatterns supplied with the camera...otherwise it's just pitch black. I have very modest demands of my application. I just want to take a picture (with SW controlled exposure time and shutter) and I will then process it further later on. The attributes I can change are below. Noticeable may be the packet size, but I have already changed that to jumbo packet size (16200) with no improvements. Please help me!! Using the SW provided with the manufacturer, I can take pictures just fine, so it should be something I'm doing wrong with Labview or in MAX. Perhaps there already are drivers for this camera developed by some clever person?Best regards,

Jonas

Hello Jonas,

Your setting seems to be fine. Would you just uninstall Vision Acquisition and reinstall it again. Just make sure that you installed all necessary Camera Software before installing Vision acquisition.

Hope this solves your problem.

Sorry, I think we may have missed your original posting with all the excitement of NIWeek here in Austin so I'm sorry nobody has posted a response sooner. VBCoder's response about reinstalling software will not help you at all, so please don't bother trying that.

Unfortunately the problem with your camera lies solely with the camera itself. If you can receive the test pattern correctly it is showing you that you have no issues with receiving image data from the camera. You may need to see if there is any updated firmware available.

It is a bit hard to explain, but their camera is constructed with two components, a camera board and a 3rd-party GigE Vision board. When you use the driver provided with their camera, it essentially talks a different protocol than the GigE Vision standard that IMAQdx uses when it talks to the camera. Often such cameras will not have all their features correctly exposed via that 3rd-party board and the standard GenICam XML file, leaving their camera not working properly with standard GigE Vision software but working fine with their own software.

I believe we have had success with other Imperx GigE Vision cameras, so I would not be surprised if there is a newer firmware that can get it working properly. Check with your distributor or Imperx directly.

Hope this helps,

Eric
