Query on image capture with digital video cam

I have a Vision Assistant v7 (no IMAQ). My DV cam Panasonic NV-MX7 has firewire connectivity. I tried installing the IMAQ1394 v200 (evaluation mode) to acquire images but could not get the video cam to be recognized. Your advice, please.

Hi Woonks,

Please ensure whether you are talking about this camera as per below link:

As mentioned above, you firewire camera is DV camcoder (DV Cam) which the ouput is encoded in a format called DV, which is a nonstandard video signal. This is the case for majority of cameras with firewire ports and it should be noted that these firewire ports ar not DCAM compliant. As result, they wont work with NI IMAQ for IEEE 1394.

Common DV Camcoder in the market will have multiple outputs, possibly including firewire, RCA, S-Video, or even USB. If you have USB connection, you may consider to use NI IMAQ for USB. Another thing, you can also consider to use our PCI 1411 if you have RCA or S-video connectivity for analog video acquisition.

If you would like to process your DV camcoder video with NI vision, you can record the camera video in .AVI using Windows Movie Maker or some other 3rd party software, then read that AVI file into your LabVIEW application using the IMAQ Vision VIs for off-line processing.

I hope above information is helpful. Let me know if there is anymore that I can help.

Regards

Yasrof
