Recommended Laptop for GigE Vision camera demanding application

I intend to run CPU-demanding labview application on a laptop computer. This application is based on GigE-Vision full compliance Dalsa line scan camera, at rates of ~70MByte/s.

NI recommends Intel pro/1000 Network Interface Card, but I couldn't find Laptop with this card. Also, I don't want the CPU to be loaded by the GigE communication, since it slowdown the VI.

  1. I will appreciate recommendation on the right laptop for this mission (Lenovo is preferred).
  2. If someone had related experience, I will be happy to hear about it.

Thanks,

Gil

In Lenovo, you can go for Thinkpad series. X300 has PRO/1000 NIC and some other models have also. but i suggest you to ask your lenovo dealers before purchase.

Hi,

Can you give us the results of your research ?

Is the Lenovo X300 working at 70MB/s with 1 or 2 Gige cameras ?

Thanks.

Eric.

Hi Eric,

Well, GigE cameras will work, but tend to miss data while setting to high data rates.

I estimate that your NIC need to be equipped with Intel Gigabit Ethernet Controller (chip), that support jumbo frames (9014Bytes), and TCP Segmentation.

Intel 82574 controller seems suitable, but I couldn't find a Lenovo laptop that using it.

There might be laptops from other vendors that do use it.
