Hello!
My question is: What software do I have to install (as little of it as possible) on to a clean computer so I could change the IP address of a NI 1742 SmartCam with an unknown IP address?
Tha camera is on the same network as the computer, but has a different subnet and an unknown IP adress.
Thank You,
M. J.

M.J.,
You normally will need MAX and Vision Acquisition installed in order to see the target in MAX and access its IP settings. I will let you know of a method I sometimes use as a shortcut though, because I can understand the hassle of installing 2 CDs worth of software to configure an IP address if you don't need the software on that system otherwise....
NI-Serial ships a utility that can discover and configure the IP address settings on most Ethernet targets NI has. This utility is lightweight and has worked with the Smart Camera for me. I will state that its not really a supported configuration mechanism and might not work for all targets nor in the future. This utility can be run from MAX under the Tools->NI-Serial menu or you can find it on disk usually here: C:\Program Files\National Instruments\NI-Serial\ENET. You should be able to copy that from a PC that NI-Serial (or probably NI-VISA) has been installed and run it standalone.
Hope this helps,
-Eric
