Using vision builder 2012 to inspect distance over two images from the same camera

I am trying to set up one camera that will capture an image of a part and measure the distance then extend the part and capture another image and measure the distance, then subtract the firs distance from the second distance. does any one if this is posable and how to do it?

Certainly, you will most likely need to set up a calibration (possibly for each image) and then set up a coordinate system and measure the object and save the result to a variable. Repeat for each image; and then subtract the variables. 

You might want to do this in at least two distinct states ( one per image ).
