VBAI 2.6 IMAQ 1394 drivers required?

Planning to but Vision Builder 2.6 for use with a Firewire camera. Reading the Release Notes it tells me that I must also install IMAQ for IEEE1394 driver software. Is this correct or can I just plug and play?

You are right. You will need a driver to acquire images from a IEEE-1394 camera (DCAM- / IIDC specification). National Instruments also sells interesting bundles. E. g. VBAI + PCI-8254R + NI-Imaq for IEEE-1394 (Partnumber: 779493-01).
8254R is a PCI-Firewire board including 29 digital IOs (TTL and isoltated).

Sorry to be picky about this but could I ask you to clarify - can I use the drivers that come with the IEEE1394 camera, or do I have to use the IMAQ 1394 driver package?

You have to use the National Instruments Driver "NI-Imaq for IEEE-1394". This driver supports cameras which support the DCAM (IIDC)-Standard. This is an industrial standard documented at:
