VBAI 2011 "Error Accessing Network" for Shared Variables

Hello All,

I have issues when trying to use shared variables in VBAI 2011. I tested the same on different PC's and it worked fine (even in evaluation mode) but not on my laptop.

I have Win7 and VBAI 2011.

I used the function "Set Variable" and define a variable by clicking "edit variables". I add a System Variable and check the box "Publish on network" like in attached screenshot.

I set the value to 4 and press OK.

The Set Variable function give an error "Error Accessing Network". No idea why.

Firewall is set OFF and the VBAI is started as administrator as described in previous forum messages.

I searched Google for "VBAI" and "Error Accessing Network" but without succes.

Please advise.

Regards,

Louis

Hello Louis,

Can you share a MAX Report of the working and the non-working systems?

http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/271F252B4EF0A2E0862570E70056A1E4?OpenDocument

Are you able to create a sharede Variable from inside the Distributed System Manager?

Hello Thierry,

Thanks for you reply.

I tried to add a variable in "NI Distributed System Manager" by adding a process to my localhost and add a variable to that process. It gives an error message in teh watch list:

"(Process Failure (LabVIEW):(Hex 0x8ABC0011) Could not resolve service to a port address.))"

I searched this error message in combination wit "NI" on google and NI knowledgebase but without succes. Is it possible that I mis some kind of database add-on/plugin for Labview?

"National Instruments Variable Engine" is running in Services.

Can you please help me further?

regards,

Louis

Hello Louis,

Can you share your MAX Reports?

This will allow me to see if some software is missing.

If nothing is missing, then most likely one of the NI related processes is not started/running on that pc.

Hello Louis,

Can you share the MAX Reports for both the working and the non-working system?

I have now a complete new installation with NI Labview 2012 Base and VBAI 2012 running on the same machine. Sometimes the shared variable function works and I'm able to link variables using the alias --> PSP functionality to variables from VBAI. But when I change something in VBAI and add or delete a variable in the variable manager the "Error Accessing Network" message pops-up  and the Set Variable step fails.

Because it sometimes work and sometimes not it is difficult to discover what I did wrong. I know that it can work but not how to keep it stable.

Is it possible that it has something to do with an unstable process?

If I look in NI Distributed System Manager I see the process localhost --> Vision Builder 2012 running. State:Online

Sometimes also there the localhost is not available (no plus-sign in front of localhost)

If you restart VBAI does it work intially? If not, do you have to restart your PC for it to start working? Do you have multiple instances of VBAI running, or a different version of VBAI running at the same time? Once you get it working do you notice it stop working when you edit the variables or switch to/from inspection mode? Does it ever stop working while running an inspection, or if it's working, it stays working until you do something different (i.e. edit variables, switch inspection/configuration mode, etc.)

Answers to these questions will help us understand what might be causing this strange issue.

Thanks,

Brad
