When will Vision become available as a 64-bit library callable from C (labwindows)?

Hello,

I am working on developing a (hopefully) 64 bit application with Labwindows.  From some older threads I got the impression that NI was (might be?) working on a 64 bit version of Vision callable from C or .NET.  The most recent thread I could find was ~ 5 months old.  Any update on this?  Obviously I would really like to see this released as soon as possible.  Since labwindows can produce 64 bit executables we are really hoping we can stick with it (and the rest of the NI software libraries).

Thanks,

Alex Corwin

Hi Alex,

I believe this is still in development, but unfortunately I do not have a timeline available for when this might be implemented. I found a KB detailing how the IMAQ API in C for 64-bit is available, but text-based support for the 64-bit version of NI Vision Development Module has not yet been provided.

I also found a similar thread discussing it, but as you said earlier, available information is somewhat dated.

Hello,

It has been about a year since I asked this question and I haven't seen any announcements towards a 64 bit version of vision.  Looking through the message board it seems that folks have been asking about this for ~ 5 year.  Can you give us a definitive answer on the current status of this (i.e. it is being actively developed and will be due out in some definitive period of time or at this time we are not actively developing this).  I am about to move on to other options for my whole solution based on the inability to run some key vision based portion at 64 bit (i.e. I will be looking at Cognex as well as various open source solutions).

Thanks,

Alex Corwin

Alex,

I understand your concern.  We would not want you to have to bother with redesigning your solution if we can help.

I am going to reach out to our Product Support Engineer over vision to see what I can offer on the subject.

Alex,

I got in touch with our vision Product Support Engineer who is in close contact with the development team for our vision products.  I can tell you that 64-bit compatibility for C for the Vision Development Module is in active development and is scheduled to be released at NIWeek 2013.

I hope this helps your planning.

Hi all,

Please consider that even if we plan to add this feature in the 2013 release there is always a slightly chance that the feature gets deferred.
We know that there is a need for this feature but it's up to the managment to set the right priority.

Thanks for the updates.  I really hope a 64 bit version is released.  Already we have started looking at some alternatives for our current code as this is the only piece that is holding us back from having a 64 bit app.

thanks,

We do a lot of work with NI software and would VERY MUCH like to obtain 64 bit compatible Vision.

Is there any chance of getting an early release?

The information Andrew and Elmar have expressed regarding an NI Week 2013 target date is still the same as of now. As Elmar stated there is a slight chance that the priority could change. You may want to contact your local account representative and express interest in this feature. We are aware of the need for this support, but more customer interest could influence the priority. That being said, NI Week 2013 remains our goal.
