Why is the pattern tool unstable and not very repetitive

Pattern tool tends to jump around after training which causes the reference to move as well. Angle search settings are set at 0.  Any ideas, recommendations?

I too agree. Try using co-ordiante system reference if possible.I find that to be more consistent

in search angle have u tried giving +/-180 degrees?Though in certain image a search angle of 60 will yield a match and whereas 180 will not yield a match.May be a ni application engineer has some clue.
