camera system for train washing unit

HI,

         I am developing an application for Automatic Train washing unit . please provide me  some guidance . I am looking for camera system and for software libraries for using in my application . The brief description of my application is as follows :

Cameras are placed infront of the train Washing unit . Whenever a train arrives at the washing unit(into a closed area) ,THE PROFILE OF THE TRAIN CAR(FROM THE IMAGE SEQUENCE COMING THROUGH THE CAMERA) LIKE HEIGHT , ROOF SHAPE AND LENGTH etc OF THE TRAIN CAR HAS TO BE FOUND. According to the profile the washing equipment gets adjusted . The train drives into the washing unit with 15 m/minute . The profile of each car has to be found because all train cars in a train are not same .

please suggest me a suitable complete camera system and software useful in developing my application .

My first impression is that this is not a good vision project.  It will be very difficult to determine the profile of the cars using vision.  I would consider using an array of distance measuring sensors instead.  I am picturing an arch that the train passes through before the wash.  On the arch are equally spaced distance sensors that determine the profile of the train cars.
