can't download vision assistant update

The browser (IE) just hangs.

The download links point to the ftp server, which I can log on to, but I can't read the Support directory (where the update is located).  The readme says that the Support directory has read only permissions, so I don't know why I can't access it.

Thanks for helping with this lowly download problem.

I was unable to download using that last link.

My IT people assure me that it can't be a firewall problem because I would see an error message; I also can't download a nearby text file.   I think that the problem lies in my ability to access the support directory on your server (ftp.ni.com/support).  Using an FTP utility, I am able to navigate through many of your other directories, but not Support.

This problem has been taking way too long.  Maybe I'll try it from home.

Are you sure it may not be a firewall issue? I cannot do ftp at work, I just get the standard page cannot be displayed ftp downloads, as seen below. When IT allows ftp, the files come through just fine.

The page cannot be displayed

The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

Please try the following:

  • Click the refresh.gif (82 bytes) Refresh button, or try again later.
  • If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.
  • To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
  • If your Network Administrator has enabled it, Microsoft Windows can examine your network and automatically discover network connection settings.
If you would like Windows to try and discover them,
click Detect Settings Detect Network Settings
  • Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have installed.
  • If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.
  • Click the Back button to try another link.

Thank you all.

You we're right.  It was our network.  IT setup my browser so that it used a proxy for FTP.  In IE I  went to tools>internet options>connections>LAN settings>advanced and removed the FTP server proxy.  Now it works.
