Good evening

Please can anybody recommend me any document about how configuring the DALSA CA-D1 256A camera using the .icd file.

Im having problems acquiring images using snap with M.A.X.

Also I would need to setup the shutter time in the camera but I can find information about how do this.

Thank you all

Hey Frank,

The camera file for your Dalsa CA-D1 0256A camera is located here, along with the Dalsa data sheet. This link provides insight into what a camera file is and how to use it. This link provides information about where to place the camera file once you download it.

Information on shutter speed configuration can be found here and here.

Post back if you’re still stumped 🙂

Hi Dave!

The documents you mention explains very good everything about the camera properties.

I now have a more clear idea of how the digital cameras work.

I have experience in analog cameras but all this digital is new for me.

Thanks!

Frank

Dear Frank,

The binning function reduces the resolution of the camera and increases the camera's sensitivity.  If enabled by the factory, there are two binning options for this camera 2x1 and 2x2.  There is an explanation of binning located at http://hirise.seti.org/epo/hirise_lesson2.htm.  If your camera has the binning option, you will need to reduce the horizontal and/vertical resolution in MAX.  For example, if 2x1 binning is enabled, you would want to set the height in max to 128.  As for the remainder of the attributes, we would need to locate a copy of the camera's manual to sort them out, and since this is a very old camera, I am having a hard time finding its manual.  Do you have a copy?

Hi,

No, I dont have the manual of the camera,  only the data I can find in the ni.com site.

I was doing a research and I could not find the manual of the camera in the internet. Right now I send a mail to dalsa and Im waiting for the answer.

I was reading the documents recommended by Dave and I can find answers and explanations of many others parameters of the frame grabber and the camera.

Now Im doing some tests with the camera to see what settings fits best my needs.

The main question I have is:

How can I control  the shutter time?, guess this is the most important parameter of the camera, because I need to synchronize with a strobe light.

Here I send you a .rar file with some images of my MAX control panel. Its shows all the settings currently active in my computer. And you will see that there is no such a parameter like "Shutter speed"  or something like this.

I know this is more a problem/answer from DALSA than yours, but  may be you have some experience with this.

Thanks

Frank

Frank:

No experience with the camera, no time to read the documents. I just googled "dalsa" + "ca-d1" and many hits came up, just grabbed a couple to post. I do not know if they cover the 256A specifically.

Well you were really lucky, I spend several days searching on google and find no documents.

Anyway, from DALSA their answer that the shutter speed is set through the ExSync signal, and this signal comes from the frame grabber.

So its the 1424 who sets the shutter speed of the camera. Im now checking the 1424 manual to see how can I control this.

Thank you all

Frank

Hey Frank,

Follow all of the links I posted above, then once you are working with the camera in the Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) you will be able to define frame  rate and pixel clock parameters in the Acquisition Parameters tab. Have a look:

 Cheers,
