object count with Vision

I have to make a program that can count number of screws on the picture. It can be up to 150 screws and could be different types. I found an example ("Match Multiple Geometric Patterns.vi") that looks like what I need, but I have to use different settings for different mix of screws and it counts wrong from time to time...

Also, it cannot separate 2 similar types (attached picture "1563977562357 (converted).jpg"). Have anybody such experience or ideas?

Hi NPalesund,

There are a few things you can try to improve the effectiveness of your pattern recognition. I found a couple of sections in the NI Vision for LabVIEW User Manual - National Instruments, that I think is a good read.

  1. First and highly cruicial: make sure to define effective template images of the different types of screws you would like to detect. See pp 5-13 in the NI Vision for LabVIEW User Manual.
  2. Use the NI Vision Template Editior to highlight important features in the template. Then use these templates to train the geometric matching algorithm. See pp 5-20.

The overall step by step procedure is described on page 5-23.

I hope this is helpful.

Best regards,

Marcus Bengths, TSE, National Instruments

Thank you for this info. Really, I have to read it first.
