Hello,

the best database to satisfy your question is the internet. There are a lot of papers out there that deal with the issue of object detection and tracking. I think this question is hard (or impossible) to answer, since there is no universal algorithm that would perform the same, no matter what the object is.

I think the more relevant question is (if you are trying to develop some algorithm of your own):

What are your goals, constraints, measuring setup, components price range, etc...?

I could recommend the following book:

Computer Vision: Algorithms and Applications (Texts in Computer Science)

and

Learning OpenCV: Computer Vision with the OpenCV Library

But if you want to get the latest on detection, you should check out recent published papers in computer vision.
