remote display doesn't work - pxi1407,lv 7.1, vision 7.1

Hi, i'm new to lv and vision. right now, i'm working on a pxi-8175 sys that has pxi-1407 onboard. i connected the camera with the the "vision" plug, and ran the sample VI, NI provided, HL grab with display option. i can see vision in the monitor connected with the chasis while using RT video out, but i can't see any pic when choosing remote display. the LAN connection is working well since i can config the controller with MAQ. (do i need crossover cable for remote display? i'm not using crossover cable now) .. can anyone give me some advice? thanks!

jacklyn,

If you can communicate with your remote chassis to configure it, the crossover cable isn't the problem. What might be the problem is that you haven't selected the option to "transfer images from remote target to local host" in MAX. Simply choosing remote display displays the image on the monitor connected to the remote system. It doesn't transfer that image to the local machine. So if you go to Tools>>IMAQ>>Remote Image options in MAX and check the box for "transfer images from remote target to local host, that might be the problem. Otherwise, I would need to know more about your system.

Hi TylerS, i did check the transfer img to local host. i tried install vision rt into the pxi controller but still the problem is there. the sys i'm working on is: pxi-8175 + pxi-1407 + rainbow S6x11MEA-II camera, it has the LV RT-ETS installed. (tell me if there's anything else you wanna know) my final objective in this project is to analyse the vision as to tell object in the road and where the clear path is. do you think you can give me some general idea as to the procedure? right now, i'm stucked with the analyse part.

jackyln,

You mentioned in your first post that "i can't see any pic when choosing remote display." What exactly does that mean? Are you trying to view this image remotely through MAX, VBAI, remote panels, or some other means? When you said that you can configure the controller in MAX, do you mean from the remote machine or from the local machine (I assumed the remote machine before, but may have been wrong). If you meant that you can configure it from the local machine but simply can't see it from the remote machine, then you want to make sure you have a crossover cable if your network cable is not going into a hub or router (i.e. if it's going straight into the remote machine).

Hi Tyler, sorry for the confusions in my discriptions. The situation is: two machines: one is my laptop(what I mean 'local'), the other a PXI-8175 embedded controller(what I mean 'remote'). They're connected straight to each other, no hub, through the ethernet port . I can see the controller under MAX and can configure it's IP, devices and everything. I can also connect the LV to this controller as well. I'm running the example, "HL grab(with display options).vi", under example->imaq->imaq rt, and the app is downloaded successfully to the controller. I can see the vision captured on the screen that's connected with the controller, not my laptop. But when I choosed the display option as "Remote Display" (here's the confusion, here it means my laptop screen right?) I can't see the vision in the front panel on my laptop's screen. And this is the problem I'm trying to understand. Did I make it clear this time? Thanks Tyler, thanks for stick around and helping out.

No need to apologize for the confusion...It's always tough to get the details of a technical problem in this format. But I think I understand what's going on now. Since you have the laptop connected directly to the controller, you WILL need a crossover cable. So that would be the first step. If you are having problems after that, let me know and we'll see what else might need to be done.

Hi Tyler, oddly enough, today, it works now with both crossover and noncrossover cable! The only thing I remembered changed was that I installed the NI IMAQ Vision RT7.1.0 into the controller. Did you assume that I have that installed on the remote controller before? Since I can't find any operation in MAQ that I could uninstalled the sfware, I can't be sure if that's the cause or not.

sorry.. there's option for uninstalled the Vision RT sfware, and I just did it. It works fine without that as well. I wish I had kept track of all that I did these days. But since another device is coming a few days later I'll see if that works fine by default.
