NI6534 is detected by windows 2000, but not in MAX.

I installed the included NI_DAQ software on my windows 2000 system, shutdown, installed the PCI-6534 board, and booted my machine. Windows 2000 detected and added the PCI-6534 correctly (I see not resource conflicts in the device manager). When I start MAX, however, I do NOT see the "Traditional NI-DAQ" or the "NI-DAQmx" tabs under the "Devices and Interfaces" tab. I only see tabs for "PXI System" and "Ports" under "Devices and Interfaces." Needless to say, I can't configure/test/etc. my 6534.

Hello Jack,

Below is a suggestion I got from a different post.

" Have you tried to refresh MAX by pressing F5? Sometimes if you've installed a new piece of hardware and MAX hasn't been refreshed, the device won't show up in MAX. This would be a nice and quick solution, so I thought I would mention that first.

What version of NI-DAQ are you using? NI-DAQ 7.0 is the newest version of NI-DAQ that supports the PCI-6052E. If you have an older version of NI-DAQ, I would suggest to uninstall the older version and download/install NI-DAQ 7.3 (with the PCI-6052E out of the computer) from the link below.

I hope this helps. Have a good weekend.

Hope this helps.

Thanks.

I was using NI-DAQ 7.2. I removed the PCI-6534, uninstalled the 7.2 version software, downloaded, and install the NI-DAQ 7.3 software. I reinstalled the PCI-6534,and booted the machine.

Windows recognizes the card as an NI-PCI-6534 and installs the driver. Looking in the hardware manager, I see no resource conflicts. When I start MAX, there is no "Traditional NI-DAQ" tab under the "Devices and Interfaces" tab. Needless to say, there is no tab for my card. Pressing F5 to refresh the listing, I still do not see the card.

I've tried switching the PCI slot (from 1st slot to second slot), as well. No change in MAX, though.

What could be happening here?

Hello Jack,

That is a very strange problem. Lets do one more thing if you have not done it yet. In control panel, lets open the "Add/Remove Programs" window, scroll down to National Instruments and click on Change. Another window will open. In that window, lets sroll down to NI-DAQ Traditional, click on it and choose repair. Lets follow the prompts to complete the repair process and see if it solves the problem.
In addition, you might want to try another traditional device if you have one. That will tell us if this is related to the 6534 or something else.
Have a great afternoon

I repaired the Tradiational NI-DAQ part of the installation, as per your suggestion. Unfortunately, this didn't change the state of affairs when I launched MAX (following a reboot) and a subsequent F5 refreshing.

I do not have any other traditional NI products I can plug in and try.

Any other ideas? I'm very hesitant to label this as a bad board as windows recognizes it... but I'm leaning farther that way every day.

Hello Jack,

Since you do not have any other NI device you can try, is it possible to try the device in a different computer? I am wondering if this has something to do with the computer you are using.
In the meantime, I will consult with some of my colleagues for more information.

Serges,

I did a fresh installation of XP on another PC, install the NI-DQ v7.2 software that came w/ my 6534, installed the board, and rebooted. MAX recognized the PCI card just fine. Running the test panel worked as one would expect.

Thanks for the help.

Hello Jack,

What differences are there between the two PCs? I am wondering if the PCI buses are different, expecially the power rails.
