Strain Gauge Excitation Voltage Range

Dears,

I have a Strain Gauge Sensor with Nominal excitation Voltage of 15V DC, but the Ni Hardware available Excitation is Max. 10V DC, so is it Possible to use this Excitation with this Strain gauge ?

Thanks

Hi Ahmed,

This should only be a nominal voltage, but should be able to be used with 10V excitation as well.  The bridge will be a ratiometric sensor which will drop a portion of the full excitation value across the resistor leg of the bridge.  Therefore, this should not be a problem.  Obviously, this will affect the accuracy of the sensor if the nominal range is 15V when you drop to 10V, but it should not be too big of a drop off, jsut could have a little more noise compared to 15V excitation.  This effectively lowers your signal-to-noise ratio.
