Hi David,

I checked my installation of the NI Device Drivers, and it appears that I already have the
NI Instrument I/O Assistant feature installed.  So I did not reinstall it.  (I am not sure when
it got installed though.  Maybe I should uninstall/reinstall it?)

Then, I verified that I have the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\ProjectTemplates\CSharp\Measurement Studio directory.  In the directory
are two compressed folders:  "ClassLibrary" and "WindowsApplication".  The
files in the folders do not contain anything with the word "VISA" in it, which is
probably why I am not finding any VISA application templates?

Any other thoughts?  Maybe there something else that needs to get unpacked?

Thanks,
Penny

Penny -

The .zip files do not need to be unpacked for the templates to be picked up by Visual Studio. The ClassLibrary.zip file and WindowsApplication.zip files contain the files for "NI Class Library" and "NI Windows Application" templates, respectively.

The .zip files that we need to cause the Instrument I/O Assistant project templates to show up are VisaClassLibrary.zip and VisaWindowsApplication.zip. These will be installed by the Instrument Control>>NI Instrument I/O Assistant installer part on the driver CD only if you run it after having installed Measurement Studio.

Have you tried just running the Driver CD installer all the way through after you installed Measurement Studio? This should have caused the Instrument Control>>NI Instrument I/O Assistant installer part to install VisaClassLibrary.zip and VisaWindowsApplication.zip. If this didn't work, it is an installer bug that we need to fix.

If you have done this, then I recommend that you uninstall and then re-install the Instrument Control>>NI Instrument I/O Assistant installer part from the Driver CD. This should cause the NI Instrument I/O Assistant installer part to recognize that MStudio is on the system, which will cause it to install VisaClassLibrary.zip and VisaWindowsApplication.zip. I don't think that this will take very long; the IIOA is a relatively small part.

Hi David,

OK, I uninstalled the NI Instrument I/O Assistant, verfied that it was gone using the
Control Panel, then reinstalled it with the Device Driver CD.  Then I verified that it
was back using the Control Panel, checked the C:\Program Files\
Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\ProjectTemplates\CSharp\Measurement Studio
directory, and did not see a *VISA*.zip folder.  I searched the whole computer for
files called *VISA*.zip and did not find anything.

So I still can't seem to find those templates.

Thanks,
Penny

Hello Penny,

I noticed that in your second post you mentioned that you installed Measurement Studio before installing Visual Studio.  Measurement Studio must be installed after Visual Studio if you wish to have integration with Visual Studio, which is how the templates would show up.  An easy  way of determining if Measurement Studio is integrated with Visual Studio is to simply open Visual Studio and check the menu bar.  If you do not see Measurement Studio appear on the menu bar of Visual Studio, you will need to repair the Measurement Studio installation in order to integrate with Visual Studio.

Once you have integrated Measurement Studio with Visual Studio, rerun the installation for IIOA, and you should have your templates.

Let us know if they continue to elude you...  Smiley Happy

I have that Menu Item, but no items within it work and I don't have the Measurement Studio Controls Toolbox...

I have another thread going about how I can't see a Measurement Studio Controls Toolbox...

Hi Nick,
Thanks, I checked the Visual Studio menu bar, and saw that Measurement Studio was not listed.  So, I
uninstalled and reinstalled Measurement Studio.  Then I rechecked the VS toolbar and saw Measurement
Studio listed.  So that was good.  Then I uninstalled the IIOA driver, and reinstalled it, and still do not
see any VISA templates for a C# application.  I searched the whole computer for *VISA*.zip and did not
find it anywhere, including the Project Templates directory mentioned above.  Hmm.
Thanks,
Penny

Hello Penny,

I am sorry that this has turned into such a headache for you, but lets try one more thing.  Now that Measurement Studio is showing up as integrated with Visual Studio, let's begin the installation of the driver CD one more time.  However, this time, when you get to the screen that allows you to select which components you are going to install, press ctrl+shift+a.  This will expand the tree out, showing you all the individual features that are going to be installed.  Now in this view, if you browse down to the entry "Instrument Control", expand that to show "NI Instrument I/O Assistant... " and then expand that to show VS2005 DotNET IIOAssitant Support, you should now be able to click on this entry and determine if the installer thinks support is already installed or not.  I would anticipate that there is either a red x next to the little black arrow, or when you click on the arrow the first entry in the pop up menu that shows says "Install this feature to a local drive", as shown in the screenshot below.  If there is a red x instead of a gray box next to the black down arrow, simply select to "Install this feature to a local drive", and continue with the installation.

It may also show "leave this feature installed locally" as shown below.  If this is the case, select to "Remove this feature", and then follow the same procedure as above to re-install the IIOA support.  Please let me know if this does not work for you.

Hi Nick,

Great news - I now have the templates!  Your suggestions worked,
after I upgraded to the March 2008 Device Drivers CD.  Until now
I had been using the May 2007 CD, which contained "NI Instrument
I/O Assistant 2.2.0" .  So I downloaded the March 2008 CD which
contained the NI Instrument I/O Assistant 2.3.0, as shown in your
last post.  Without this upgrade, the installation seemed to fail when
I selected the "VS2005 DotNET IIOAssistant Support" driver.  (I
didn't check for the templates after the installation failed - I just proceeded
to download the March 2008 CD and try it again.  Then it worked.)

So thanks for all of the help!  I am looking forward to getting this
application working.

Best regards,
Penny
