Can't install M S 7 because of no .NET Framework can't install .NET framework

Okay, I can't install M S 7 because it says I am lacking .NET framework. The Dialog Box points me to this link http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframework/downloads/howtoget.asp which does not exist however a howtoget.aspx link does exist.

The page says general users install through windows update --- I've tried that twice and nothing in the way of .NET framework appears.

The page also says for developers to go to the microsoft download site. I've done this and downloaded

The Get NET framework 1.1 SDK

and The Get NET framework 1.1 redistributable


When I go to install these I get a message that I can't without .NET framework

What am I missing?????

These may be the links that you've already looked at, but just in case, check this out:

• Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable Package


• .NET Framework SDK Version 1.1

Both of these should install the .NET Framework 1.1 on your system, and the latter will also install the .NET Framework SDK. Hope this helps.
