How to disable mDNS service without disabling USB devices

Hi

I'm using NI-DAQ 8.5 on XP. Out company has to migrate to Win7, so I'm playing with NI-DAQ 9.2.1 on Win7.

I've installed the "config" version, the one which has a 780MB installer. After reboot there's no internet connection and a new network is detected, which is a bad omen. Searching 15 minutes reveals this is a known problem: connection lost. OK, I disable the mDNS service, which I don't need anyway. But "NI Device loader" depends on it, so it's disabled too. I try plugging in a USB-6525, it's shown in the device manager, but not in MAX. Google helps me once again: no NI device loader.

So how can I plug in a plug'n'play device and use it (eg. in MAX) with an internet connection? Don't tell me to delete route every time I detect a routing problem.

We write our .NET measurement programs, all we need is the .NET dlls and MAX to be able to test the device. The size of the installer is 780MB, which is ridiculous. It installs french .NET, 9 services, Labview runtime (who asked it?) and god knows what. Your installer guys have already gone far beyound imagination with previous versions and if you continue like this, even the Siemens guys will ask your advice.

Hello lukit,

I believe we may have a beta fix for this issue that we'd like you to test.  May I have your permission to get your email address from our forums team to contact you offline?

I am having the same problem where after installation I can no longer reach some URL because "something" has added the default route of 0.0.0.0. I disabled the service as described in the KB articel, and now my code (C++) can talk to the the USB DAQ device.

I see it's been about a week since the last post. Has any progress been made?

Good news, everyone!

The patch looks to be OK. mDNS running, Device Loader running, network looks to be fine and the USB card is in MAX.

Thanks, Seth!

I'm now curious as to the purpose of even having this service runing?  In addition to the mDNS service there are four other NI services. What is their purpose?I can see where these may be helpful if running a development enviroemt, but in my case we are writing a comercial app that only talks to a USB6008 that is in our instrument.

Is there a KB articel that explains this? For a situation like mine where we know we are always talking to a USB6008, is there a way to set everything up so I don't need the extra services?

Thanks,

Mitch

If the number of addition services had been only 5 I would be happier but there are 4 more of them (starting with "NI", just to be consistent), making a total of 9 services.

Anyway, I ask the same questions.

Hey everyone,

The patch that Seth referenced is included in VISA 5.0.2. Please try installing this version of VISA to see if it fixes your issue.

I know it seems strange to install VISA to fix a "DAQ" problem, but the underlying issue is with the mDNSResponder service. mDNSResponder is included in many of our drivers, it's just that VISA 5.0.2 is the one that currently contains the fix. Other driver software will include this fix moving forward.

I'm new to NI, so I don't know what VISA is. In any case the download you pointed to is 445 MB!

Any idea of the timeframe for seeing this patch in DAQmx?

Why are NI installers so huge? I realize you have a lot of products, but most people use just one or two products.
