Is Logos required for Measurement Studio?

I noticed that there are three service running on my system. The details from Process Explorer are:

Part of Logos National Instruments, Inc.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\lktsrv.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\lkads.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\lkcitdl.exe

I can't see any of these listed in the Services Manager. Are these required just for using Measurement Studio? Also, what exactly do they do?

Thanks,
Derek

Hi Derek,

Logos is not required for using Measurement Studio. As you may be aware, Logos is a mechanism developed by National Instruments for inter-process communication.

The three executables you mentioned are services implemented by Logos. Lktsrv.exe is the Time Service. Lkads.exe is the Classified Ads service. Lkcitdl.exe is the Citadel service. The Time Service provides for time synchronization. A service-port map is maintained on each computer by the Classified Ads service. Citadel manages historical data and databases. These services are managed by the NI Service Manager.

The most common National Instruments products that make use of some or all of these services are FieldPoint, Lookout, DIAdem, and the LabVIEW Datalogging and Supervisory Control Module. The full answer to your question is these services are not necessary for Measurement Studio, and they may be needed by your application depending on what it involves. If you are not sure whether or not your application uses any of these services, you could quickly find out by stopping the services and running your application.

Regards,

Eric M
