Measurement Studio 7.0 installation causes MS Outlook / Word problem

I just got Measurement Studio 7.0 and went to install it. Before installing, I removed Measurement Studio 6 and then I installed MS 7.0.

I use MS Word as my editor in Outlook (Tools menu --> Options --> Mail Format tab --> click "Use MSWord to edit e-mail messages"). After the above two uninstall / install operations, I found that MSWord no longer could be used as the editor - I got various different OLE registration errors. The error is Cant open this item. An OLE registration error occurred. The program is not correctly installed. Run Setup again for the program.

I tried both the Fix problems and a Reinstall operations for the Office installation app (setup.exe). No luck. I have n
ot done an uninstall, then reinstall yet.

I rolled back to a system restore point just prior to the uninstall of MS6.0 and found that things are OK now. So it appears the problem is related to either the uninstall of MS 6.0 or the install of MS 7.0. I don't believe that there is a restore point after uninstalling 6.0 and before installing 7.0.

I am using XP Pro, SP 1 with all updates/patches applied. I have Office XP, SP2 and Visual Studio .NET 2003.

Has anyone else seen this?

P.S. This question is in the VB subgroup of Measurement Studio as I could not select the general "Measurement Studio" group, nor was there a Visual Studio .NET subgroup. Not sure where it really belongs.

Hello,
I have tried to reproduce this at NI, but unfortunately I was unable to do so. I had Measurement Studio 6.0 installed. I unistalled 6.0, then installed 7.0. Microsoft Outlook was installed on that machine. I am still able to open Microsoft Outlook and use MSWord as the editor in Outlook. I looked into this error on WinXP and 2000. I am not really sure what would be causing this on your machine. Can you try unistalling and reinstalling Outlook to see if the problem still persists.

Just out of curiosity, did you try to reproduce this error after installing Measurement Studio 6.0 but before installing Measurement Studio 7.0? Also, FYI, Measurement Studio 6.0 and Measurement Studio 7.0 will run side-by-side, so you don't have to uninstall Measurement Studio 6.0 to install Measurement Studio 7.0.

Greetings,

Curious if you ever had a beta version of Measurement Studio 7.0 on your machine. If so, did you uninstall it?

One way you can help us determine what happened between install/uninstall is to create a log file. Would you mind sending an email directly to support at support@ni.com so we can give you instructions on how to create such a file? We would really appreciate it.

Thank you in advance,
Azucena

Ok, in that case, we really need you to create a log file to try and narrow what could be going wrong and give us information to track down the issue. It also should leave your system in the best state possible.

Thank you,
Azucena
