When will VS2008 be supported?

I don't get the error that you reported when I drop a WaveformGraph on a Form in VS2008 and build the project.

Some additional questions/information to help us narrow down what might be the problem:

1) What edition of VS2008 are you using (e.g., Express, Professional, Team System)?

2) You state that the SDK version on your machine is v5.0. According to the error message, you need v6.0. This is the version that was installed on my machine when I installed VS2008. Have you tried installing the v6.0A of the SDK? Here is a link to the download:

3) Check out this post on the MSDN forums - http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2500957&SiteID=1 - it is from another person who had the same problem and fixed it by doing a full install of VS2008. Did you do a full install or a default install?

We have completed our testing of all Measurement Studio 8.1.2 VS2005 (i.e. .NET Framework 2.0-dependent) .NET libraries in Visual Studio 2008. We did not find any issues.

Although we did not test versions prior to 8.1.2, we fully expect all prior versions to work as well.

We did not test any VS2003 (i.e. .NET Framework 1.1-dependent) .NET libraries in Visual Studio 2008. However, because we have previously tested them with VS2005, we don't anticipate any issues with these libraries either.

If you find issues trying to use any Measurement Studio .NET libraries in Visual Studio 2008, please be sure to report them to us. You can either post to this forum or contact customer support directly.

Sorry for this late response (due to holidays) .

I've checked the version of SDK. It was indeed V5.0.

Thus, I've now installed VS2008 SDK  (V6.0) as you proposed, and indeed now the wavegraph seems to work properly in the VS2008 environment.

Can I (based on your last reply ... "completed our testing Measurement Studio version 8.1.2 in VS2008 and did not found any issues" ..) assume that the version 8.0.1 (also for VS2005) is compatible with VS2008?

Although we did not test the 8.0.1 controls in Visual Studio 2008, we have every reason to believe that they will work just fine, based on our testing of the 8.1.2 and our knowledge of the differences between the 8.0.1 controls and the 8.1.2 controls.

If you encounter any issues using the 8.0.1 controls in Visual Studio 2008, please let us know about them so that we can work through them.

I'm glad to here that Measurement Studio is working with VS 2008, but is there anyway I can install Measurement Studio on a machine that has VS 2008 but doesn't also have VS 2005?  The install currently stops if it can't find VS2003 or VS2005.

The Visual Studio Integration feature and all of the C++ support features require that specific versions of Visual Studio be on the system. You should be able to install all other features (including the .NET libraries) on a system without Visual Studio 2005. To do this, you need to uncheck the features that require a specific version of Visual Studio. Can you try this and let us know if it works? If the installer still complains, please let us know what error message it shows.

The attached screenshot shows the 8.1.2 installer configured not to install the features that require VS2005.

I uninstalled VS8 and reinstalled to try and fix the problem.

Not fixed but recompiling by pressing the grean arrow key fixes it.

Not all components o this.

I to, do not need the wizards or any think that messes with the C++ header and pathsot

Hi- I did as instructed and the install seemed to go ok. However my problem seems to be the NI MS toolbox is not loading (or being found) once in the project.

Background info:

I am experienced with VB6.0 and use NI Measurement Studio 8.1.2 developing various engineering tools for my groups use on an as needed basis.

I am currently finally biting the bullet and moving to VS.NET. I have dabbled a few times in the past. Anyway without thinking I purchased VS2008 and then ran into the referenced problem trying to install MS8.1.2 for VS2005/2003. I did as you suggested and the install seemed to go OK.

However, when I open a new project a Measurement Studio Project is not an available type (as the NI MS manual says it should be). If I open a standard project I can Add Reference just fine – either NI MS .NET or NI MS COM references just fine. It also seems to work if I use the upgrade wizard. All the DLLs seem to be there.

However, and this is my question/problem: I can’t find the ToolBox containing the NI MS UI components (or CWGraph or any of the others). I do have the various toolboxes supplied as part of VS.NET.

I assume I’m missing something – Thanks for any help.

Hi Tim,

The Measurement Studio 8.1.2 libraries will work in Visual Studio 2008 as David mentioned and thus you can use our libraries in VS 2008. However, since this version of Measurement Studio wasn't designed for Visual Studio 2008, you won't have any VS 2008 integration features (i.e. project templates, the Measurement Studio toolbox, Measurement Studio menus, etc).  In order to use our UI controls, you will need to manually add them to the Visual Studio toolbox. 

As a side note, the upcoming version of Measurement Studio will natively support Visual Studio 2008 which means integration will be there.
