Hi

Thanks Jonathan and Colin for your quick replies. I did finally find how to add to the toolboxes last evening after an hour of exploring many of the menus. Unfortunately I was at home and not checking email so I did not know the answer had already been posted. Next time I will not underestimate how quickly people respond to the forum.

I did add both .NET and COM components to the toolbox and explored creating some test Forms using one or the other and got a feel for how things were working in the VS 2008 environment.

I also used the Upgrade Wizard to upgrade a couple of simple projects. Obviously these were created in VB6 and have NI MS COM components. After the upgrade to VS2008 they are still COM components.

This is my next question. Is there an automated process for converting the NI COM components to NI .NET components?

Thanks

Great, but please do not screw up this time, like the 2003 version.

I to, do not need the wizards or any think that messes with the C++ header and pathsot

>>Visual C++/MFC projects) in the upcoming Measurement Studio Beta.

I hope you do not do the above (Greates to many problems)

Colin -

I'm sorry that the Measurement Studio C++ integration features have caused you grief in the past. We have had positive feedback on them from many customers, especially those who are not experts in C++. So, we do not intend to remove these features from the product.

On the other hand, installation of these features is optional. If you do not want any Measurement Studio Visual Studio environment integration features (e.g. project wizards, DAQ Assistant, or modifications to the default paths), you should deselect the "Visual Studio Integration" feature in the installer feature tree. The attached screenshot shows the installer configured in this manner. From your post, it seems that this is what you want.

I'd also like to re-iterate that the upcoming Measurement Studio Beta will not have any C++ support for Visual Studio 2008. Could you let me know when you think you will need C++ support for VS2008 and which libraries (e.g., DAQmx, User Interface, etc.) you will need?

I normaly take the eay option off Full Install.

Perhaps next time I will try a custom install

Adding MS to VS2008 by hand still leave up woithout the help file.

Any no how on how to add the help files so that the F1 key works

We do not have a way for you to integrate the MStudio VS2005 support help into the "MSDN Library for Visual Studio 2008" help collection, which is what is required for integration into the Visual Studio environment (including F1 support). Microsoft also does not provide a mechanism for migrating help from one version of MSDN to another (likely because links would break).

So, for now you will have to live with manually looking up the help in the "MSDN Library for Visual Studio 2005" help collection.

We'll post to this forum thread to let you know when you can sign up for the MStudio Visual Studio 2008 support Beta. The Beta will include help integrated into the "MSDN Library for Visual Studio 2008" help collection.

David,

Will the next Measurement Studio BETA for VS2008 include C++? If so when will this be released?

Our existing VC++applications use NiDAQmx, NiSync, NiVisa, DataSocket and Measurement Studio. Can you please advise when all the libraries listed will be compatible with VS2008 VC++?

Regards,

Steve

Our current target for releasing VS2008 C++ support is Q4 of this year. This puts our Beta target some time around the beginning of September. These dates are very preliminary and subject to change - we have only recently begun research on this project. Does this timeline work for you? If not, may NI contact you offline to discuss alternative options?

Regarding NI-DAQmx, NI-VISA, and DataSocket - are you using the MStudio-style MFC APIs to these libraries (i.e., classes with names that begin with CNi) or are you using the C APIs to these libraries?

Regarding NI-Sync, I think that you must be using the C APIs because there is no MStudio-style MFC API to this driver (to my knowledge). Is this correct?

The link from Jonathon for the Beta is a dead end.

How does one go about "integrating 2005 into 2008 - by hand" ?  Even if the help libraries don't come with it.
