using measurement studio 6.0 activeX controls in 7.1

I would like to use the serial ActiveX control from Measurement Studio 6.0 inside a .net/c# program.  I have MS 7.1 installed on my machine and I'm trying to install the 6.0 support.  I keep getting a message that the installer can't setup Measurement Studio for Visual C++ because Visual C++ is open.

Any help past this problem would be much appreciated.

I'm not sure why you are getting a message that states that Visual C++ is open if Visual C++ is not open.

Regardless, you do not need to install Measurement Studio 6.0 support for Visual C++ to get the Serial ActiveX control. This control is installed with Measurement Studio for Visual Basic. When you run the Measurement Studio Support for Visual Studio 6 installer, uncheck Measurement Studio for Visual C++.
