Agilent power meter serial port programming

i want to control the Agilent power meter E4416A through serial port. i tried all the possible commands for reading the data using mscomm in VB , CWSerial in NI , still i am not able to get the simple query *IDN executed. Few commands works well with GBIP interface but it dose not work with serial port. pl send some sample programs. Thanx

Hi there,

Are you getting any errors when you try to send your commands?  Have you tried a loopback test to make sure your port is working?  If a loopback test is working, it could be the format of the commands you are sending.  You might want to check is the manual for your device to see if it requires a special termination character or carriage return.
