Is there a way in VB to get the system state out of MAX for a remote system?

Hello, I would like to check if my FieldPoint I/O is connected.  I notice that in MAX there is a system state "connected" or "disconnected", under Remote Systems tree.   Is there a way to  grab that information from VB code?
