NI 6221 won't load driver

Have a working USB connected NI 6221 PCB and a program to use it written in VB 6.0.   Everything works fine with a WinXP host PC.   I normally use it with NI-DAQmx 8.7.1.

We want to jettison the Host PC and use a new Dell Laptop.   New Laptop has Win 7.0.   Changed the Laptop over to WinXP mode.   Loaded all the NI-DAQmx stuff I need ( VB drivers mainly and the Measurement and Automation Explorer, 90% of what is on the CD I don't need. )    Anyway, no matter what I do with the laptop, it won't recognize the NI 6221 pcb.   I did " connect " the usb port.   It still doesn't see it...

I tried a later version of NI-DAQmx for Win 7    Ver. 9.1.0 and still no luck.     I'm starting to think we simply can't use the 6221 with this new laptop no matter what I do...I know we can buy a WinXP laptop, is that my only solution ?

Hi prginocx,

This has been discussed in a few threads on the forums before, and it looks like DAQmx can work with USB devices on a virtual machine (Windows XP Mode), but it is not officially supported. The thread below has a description of why this is: "This is because the way USB communication is handled on virtualized OSes is typically only optimized for Human Interface Devices or Mass Storage devices and not devices that require much higher performance, such as USB DAQ devices."

In another thread, I found an example of a customer getting his USB device to work in Windows XP mode using LabVIEW 8.6 and DAQmx 8.8.

Your best bet here is to find some people who have made this work. As far as the device not working in Windows 7, are you able to see the 6221 in MAX or Windows Device manager?
