upgraded NI-DAQ software now VB6 software does not run

Hi, I hope someone can help me out.

I have recoded  a VB6 / Component Works application that I developed in 2002. I am using VB.NET 2005 / Measurement Studio 8.0.1. I wanted to install the new application on one of our systems to familiarize our operators with the new release and get their feedback. When I tried to install NI-DAQmx 8.0.1 the installation required me to upgrade my traditional NI-DAQ which was version 6.92. I downloaded and installed version 7.4.1.

Unfortunately my original program no longer runs. I had installed Measurement Studio 8.0.1 support for VB6 so I thought that perhaps all I needed to do was recompile and redeploy my old VB6 code. However when I load my VB6 project the activeX components do not recognize my installed NI hardware. In NI Measurement and Automation Explorer my PC6601 is listed under both NI-DAQmx and legacy devices.

I need to run both versions temporarily. What have I overlooked?

Thanks,
Diane

Hi Diane,

The installation procedure you followed sounds correct.  The Measurement Studio 8.0.1 support for VB6 lets you call the traditional DAQ devices.  One thing I suggest is making sure that you have reset your traditional daq drivers.  The active x components do not recognize the installed NI hardware, so I assume the controls are just appearing empty?  I would suggest seeing if the VB6 examples will work with any of your devices.  In the National Instruments directory under NI DAQ\Examples there should be a VB directory.  If those are not working, then we can be certain that your traditional drivers are not properly set up.  One last thing to check is what kind of behavior do the tradtional daq test panels give you in measurement and automation explorer.  Please get back to me so we can get your issue resolved.

Have a great morning,
