Hi ajmal,
  • Simply follow the instructions to install the drivers for your device
  • Then power down your computer and plug the board into the appropriate port.  If you are using a PCI card plug it into the PCI port, if using USB then plug it into the USB port, etc.
  • When you reboot the computer the software for the device should install.
  • Once everything is finished installing you can verify that it is working by going to Start > All Programs > National Instruments and open Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX).  In MAX go to Devices and Interfaces and you should see your device and have the ability to test it to confirm that it works.
Best of luck,

ajmal,

Which device are you using?  Is there a product number or anything on the device that you have?

If you want more theory on just how a DAQ device works, then please peruse this site: Introduction to Data Acquisition

Hello ajmal,

The DAQ board doesn't interface with the serial port on the computers.  It plugs into the computer and communicates via the PCI bus.  You do not need a special "port" to communicate with the DAQ device, it should work just fine in any PCI slot on the computer.  The data is transferred from the DAQ board to the computer's memory using the PCI bus protocol, which you don't have to worry about.

In order to connect to the signal you want to measure, you will need a cable to connect to the 68-pin connector on the DAQ board and on the other end of the cable, have some sort of 68-pin accessory to connect your signal to.  The DAQ board will measure the analog voltage of your signals, convert them to a digital representation, and send this value over the PCI bus to the computer memory.  You can than read this value into your development environment.  This transfer of data is all handled by the DAQ driver.
