Visual C++ Books????

to reply via e-mail take out ALL the X's

I have Microsoft Visual C++ Professional Edition. For my independant study
I am to learn C++ programing. I have version 5.0 and assume that is C++
that everyone talks about. At any rate I have only the CD and no books. I
do not need to become a commercial programmer but I do need to learn
functions and be able to write and execute some programs to keep my grades
up. As this is an independent study I am responsible for my own materials.

I would like to know what books to purchase that would help me understand
this program and enable me to write some programs. I have written a check
book program in a program called Fox Pro. I would like to port that to C++.

Thank you for any help I may receive.

For learning C++, I recommend one of these:

There are some good Visual C++ books out, too, but I think that most books about versions 5 or 6 are out-of-print now that Visual C++ .NET is out.
