You are correct in your assumption, NI-VISA is a separate driver for Instrument Control and does not install with NI-DAQmx, the driver for Data Acquisition. The Device Driver DVD installs both of these along with several other drivers.
As far as IVI goes, there are multiple IVI drivers, IVI is simply a standard and other companies make them as well. NI makes the IVI Compliance Package, which again is a separate installation.
